As a lifelong educator and devoted mother, Shelley Williams brings over a decade of hands-on experience in education to her campaign for the Richland 2 School Board. With a focus on inclusive policies, academic excellence, and fiscal responsibility, Shelley is committed to fostering environments where every student can thrive. Her background is rooted in a deep family legacy of civic leadership and service, making her the ideal candidate to impact the future of our schools positively.
A Lifelong Educator
Shelley currently serves as an English Language Arts (ELA) instructional coach, helping shape the next generation of learners and educators. With more than ten years of experience in the classroom and beyond, she has dedicated her career to ensuring that students receive the support and resources they need to succeed. As a former Chair of Richland Two Charter High School and tutor for students with disabilities, Shelley has been a consistent advocate for educational equity.
Family Legacy of Leadership and Service
Shelley’s commitment to education and public service runs deep, influenced by the example of both her parents. Her mother, Evelyn Williams, spent her career dedicated to education and public service, instilling in Shelley the values of hard work, dedication, and compassion. Her father, Isaac “Ike” Williams, served as the NAACP Field Director and District Director for Congressman James E. Clyburn. Together, they shaped Shelley’s understanding of the power of advocacy and the importance of giving back to the community.

Her son is at the heart of Shelley’s drive and passion, whom she considers her greatest joy and motivation. As a proud and loving mother, Shelley understands firsthand the importance of ensuring every child has access to a quality education. Her experience as a parent allows her to bring a compassionate and well-rounded perspective to the Richland 2 School Board, advocating for policies that benefit all families in the district.
Professional and Academic Excellence
Shelley graduated from the prestigious Spelman College with a degree in Early Childhood Education. She then continued her academic journey with a Master’s in Divergent Learning and Educational Administration from Columbia College, which equipped her with the skills to lead in educational innovation and policy. Her professional background includes a formative internship with South Carolina State Superintendent of Education Inez Tenenbaum.
Dedicated to Community and Civic Engagement
Shelley’s community involvement is extensive and far-reaching. As a former volunteer with Campus Girl Scouts in Atlanta and a youth advisor for the Young People Christian Association, she has steadfastly committed to mentoring young people. Shelley is also actively involved in civic organizations such as the NAACP, Brookland Baptist Church, Junior League of Columbia, and Richland County Education Association. Additionally, she proudly serves as a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, and the National Alumnae Association of Spelman College.
